Synopsis
We invite you to join us in New York City at The Museum of Modern Art on Friday, November 30 and Saturday, December 1, 2018 for FLAME New York: Pathways to Leadership for Museum Education, an intensive two-day professional development program focused on leadership skills. The program is for those who aspire to be museum directors as well as those who aim to position museum education more strategically within the leadership of their museum or academic institution. This concentrated program responds to recommendations from the first Forum for Leadership in Museum Education (FLAME) professional program hosted by Stacey Shelnut-Hendrick at the Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento after which these four topics were identified by participants as of greatest interest for future programs:
-
Promoting the Museum Education Field
-
Creating, Using, and Advancing Research in Our Practice
-
Pathways to Leadership
-
Nurturing this Community
We used those insights to help shape this immersive, professional skill-building program featuring six professionals in the field. Joining us in this endeavor is Judy Koke, Director of Professional Development for the Institute for Learning Innovation. We are interested in sustaining the FLAME learning community between our episodic professional development gatherings to continue the learning. Over the last year, FLAME sponsored an evening session at NAEA and two webinars. Judy brings her extensive museum education leadership experience and her research-based practice to help us shape the FLAME New York program and beyond.
The program is designed to be intimate with limited spots for 30 participants. It will involve interactive learning and exchange throughout the program, including lunch and dinner on Friday, November 30. Please visit our Program Schedule page for more information on specific workshops and intimate meal gatherings.
